To calculate stock profit or loss, we need to know the buy price, sell price, and number of shares purchased. The stock profit formula given below will show you how to calculate stock profit. Stock Profit = (S - B) * N, where S = Sell Price B = Buy Price N = Number of shares purchased For example, let's say you bought 15 shares of MSFT stock for $325.28 and sold them for $405.75, following is how you would calculate your profit on this trade. Stock Profit = ($405.75 - $325.28) * 15 Stock Profit = $1,207.05 Therefore, you made a profit of $1,207.05 on this MSFT stock trade.
While you can always manually calculate your stock profit or loss on a trade, it would be tedious if you traded multiple times a day. We built this stock calculator to make traders and investors easier by automating the calculating process. The only three variables that the stock profit calculator needs are the buy price, sell price, and # of shares, all the other fields are optional. Symbol - The symbol of the stock that you purchased. # of Shares - The number of shares you purchased. Buy Price - Your entry price. Sell Price - Your exit price. Buy Commission - Many online brokers offer free trades. If your broker still charges a commission, then enter the commission amount. Sell Commission - Enter the sell commission in case your broker does not offer free trades. Again, only the # of Shares, Buy Price, and Sell Price are required fields, the rest are optional.
