Options trading is a type of financial derivative that gives investors and traders the option to buy or sell the underlying stock at a pre-agreed price (strike price) before the expiration date. There are mainly two types of options, call options and put options.
Call options give holders the right to purchase the underlying stock at the strike price before the options expire.
Put options give holders the right to sell the underlying stock at the strike price before the options expire.
The strike price of an option is the price at which the underlying stock can be bought or sold once the option expires. The strike price for a call option is the price of the underlying stock that can be bought by the option holder, whereas the strike price for a put option is the price of the underlying stock that can be sold by the option holder.
Each option contract has 100 shares. For stock options, one option contract gives the holder the option, but not the obligation to buy or sell 100 stocks at the strike price.
An options profit calculator gives investors and traders the ability to quickly calculate their profits or losses on their options positions. You can certainly calculate the options profit manually, but it will take some time as it requires more variables than a simple stock trade.
There are a few variables required to calculate the value of the current options price for a stock, the option price paid per contract, the number of contracts, the strike price, and the current stock price. Options Type - the type of the option, either call option or put option Stock Symbol - an optional field Options Price Paid Per Contract - the amount of money you spend on buying the options contract # of Contract - how many contracts did you buy? Each contract represents 100 underlying shares of a stock. Strike Price/Exercise Price - the price of the underlying stock that can be bought or sold before the expiration date. Current Stock Price - the price of the underlying stock at the current moment. With the above information, our options calculator will calculate the options status, your total costs, current stock value, strike price value, and profit or loss. The options profit calculator will show you whether your options are in the money, out of the money, or at the money.
